Alpha Electrical Midlands (AEM) are electrical contractors, based in Leamington Spa, providing electrical solutions from design to installation. The company prides itself on high standards and teamwork as it delivers cost-effective electrical solutions. AEM have worked with our team here at Access Security Solutions for around ten years on a range of projects providing access control solutions for care homes and many other commercial properties. We were delighted when AEM chose us to provide the door entry equipment for the conversion of a former HMRC office building to a luxury apartment block, to be named Iron Yard.

Iron Yard, formerly known as Concept House, was purchased by a developer to convert the former HMRC offices into a complex of 95 high quality boutique apartments. The apartments would be comprised of a mix of one and two-bedroom units across 6 floors, designed to appeal to young professionals in a highly desirable area, with great connectivity, right in the heart of Sheffield. A complete renovation was planned, bringing a striking new modern appearance to the exterior of the building. The high level of security demanded by the target market required that a video entry and access control system was included in the re-development. The equipment chosen would have to not only provide the enhanced level of security required, but also compliment the high specification finishes the project would feature.

Working in partnership with AEM, Jim Foster from Access Security Solutions travelled to Sheffield to conduct a site survey and fully evaluate the requirements of the project. It was concluded that the best combination of functionality, product design and cost-effectiveness would be to recommend that the use of Farfisa DUO two wire technology for the video door entry system. DUO technology uses just 2 non-polarised conductors and allows the use of the elegant Farfisa HERO TD2000HE DDA exterior door entry panel and stylish ZHERO ZH1252WE hands-free internal monitors. The ASP8000 access control system could be combined with this with the card/fob reader located in the HERO panel reader cut-out.

The project proceeded using the recommended equipment which (as part of our Value Added Service – VAS – ) was supplied to AEM pre-programmed allowing a greatly reduced installation period, during which AEM had the peace of mind of knowing that the Access Security Solutions team were just a phone call away ready to handle any unexpected queries.
